In summary: this has been one of my most difficult years, but I have a lot in the pipeline that I’ll be releasing soon.
In more specific terms: I’ve had a lot of chronic pain issues this year that have been dragging me down, so the state of the Rose isn’t the best. Fortunately, I have people in my life whom I love and who love me very much, so I’ll keep going and hold out hope for a brighter 2026.
All of that aside, here’s what I’m working on right now: I’ve scheduled another round of playtesting next week for Protoplastic, so I’ll have a write-up of that and the lessons learned soon. Since the last attempt I’ve figured out a lot about what I want from the game and refined the mechanics significantly from the 0.4 version: the biggest single shift is that the dice pool is now used as a timer, with time passing (triggering an omen/doom track event) once it runs out and needs refilling. I’ve started drawing some inspiration from AGON 2nd edition, specifically the idea of having a set of threats you have to manage, which slots in nicely with the dice allocation Protoplastic is built around. I’m really looking forward to seeing how it all shakes out once it hits the table.
Also, a couple days ago I recorded the fifth episode of Rose Playing Games, my video podcast with a friend (also named Rose) who loves TTRPGs as much as I do. I’ve been sitting on these for a while but I intend to start releasing them this month, so expect those to start coming out every other week soon.
Thank you to everyone reading this, you make all the work worth it.
